Challenge Day 2009

Ok, so most of you know that I'm an Adapted PE teacher for my district, which means that I provide Physical Education for my special kids. One of my classes houses very severely handicapped kids who aren't able to participate in outside sports or activities. Each year, we do a Special Olympics Challenge Day for them. It's always a VERY emotional day for all involved. Parents, students, and administrators come to cheer on our kids.

This year, it was extra special for me because my Maddi was a Peer Helper to one of my kids. She worked one-on-one with a very special girl. She did a great job and I was so proud of her.

Look at the pictures below and if you have a chance, say a prayer for each of the kids you see, as well as their families. They go through so much on a daily basis just to make it to through the day. I am so incredibly blessed to work with them and I always walk out of their classroom reminded that despite my own struggles, frustrations and worries, I AM BLESSED.
I hope you are reminded of the same. The fans...
Passing the Olympic torch...
Olympic events:

Bowling...
Tennis...
Softball...
Fencing...Baseball...
Exciting times!

Baton Relay Race...
Parachute fun with parents, kids, teachers and peer helpers...

I service the elementary TIC (Therapeutic Intervention Class). We have two of them, an elementary and a junior high one. Here's the elementary group with their peer helpers for the day...
Here are the teachers, aides, the PE teacher(me) and the peer helpers with our kids...
Such a wonderful day...wish you could've seen it in person.
The pictures don't do it justice.
Remember to think of all the good things in your life
and be BLESSED and THANKFUL today.
Today was a reminder for me to do the same!

That looks so amazing. I would love to have your job. Keep up the inspirational work. And keep your kids involved in the lives of others not as fortunate in health. Thanks for sharing.

As a mom to one of your students thank you for caring enough to dedicate a portion of your family blog to our special day :) Challenge Day is always a very special event to our family. It allows us to forget for a day all the things we cannot do and allows our child to be the MVP that they are in our hearts and mind. It takes a very special person to teach these special students and you are that...Bless you Always
